ABSTRACT

Despite the increasing degree of automation in industry, manual or semi-automated are commonly and inevitable for complex assembly tasks. The transformation to smart processes in manufacturing leads to a higher deployment of data-driven approaches to support the worker. Upcoming technologies in this context are oftentimes based on the gesture-recognition, − monitoring or–control. This contribution systematically reviews gesture or motion capturing technologies and the utilization of gesture data in the ergonomic assessment, gesture-based robot control strategies as well as the identification of COVID-19 symptoms. Subsequently, two applications are presented in detail. First, a holistic human-centric optimization method for line-balancing using a novel indicator–ErgoTakt–derived by motion capturing. ErgoTakt improves the legacy takt-time and helps to find an optimum between the ergonomic evaluation of an assembly station and the takt-time balancing. An optimization algorithm is developed to find the best-fitting solution by minimizing a function of the ergonomic RULA-score and the cycle time of each assembly workstation with respect to the workers' ability. The second application is gesture-based robot-control. A cloud-based approach utilizing a generally accessible hand-tracking model embedded in a low-code IoT programming environment is shown. © 2022 The Author(s). ABSTRACT

Introduction - MIS-C is the most relevant complication of SARS-CoV-2 infection and has an incidence of 1 case / 2,200 children and adolescents with previous infection. The clinical picture is characterized by a multiorgan involvement and an insufficiently known response to therapy. Objectives - Retrospective analysis carried out in the Paediatric Department of the Ravenna Hospital from April 2020 to March 2022 of the cases admitted with MIS-C, with description of the presentation characteristics, the differences with respect to Kawasaki disease and the therapeutic strategies adopted also with regard to the clinical response. Results - Thirteen cases diagnosed with MIS-C with an average age of 6 years and four months were hospitalized, 4 cases were of Italian origin, 6 of Balkan and 3 of African. All the cases presented with fever> 39 ° C with severe malaise / irritability, associated with skin rash in 9 cases, conjunctivitis in 7 and cheilitis in 5. The most prominent manifestations of organ involvement were abdominal pain / diarrhoea (N = 9), myocardial dysfunction in the absence of coronary involvement (N = 5), presence of pulmonary thickening (N = 5), painful laterocervical lymphadenitis with reduced neck motility (N = 5), subnephrotic proteinuria (N = 7) and hypertransaminasaemia (N = 8). Two cases with “encephalitic-like” psychomotor slowing, one with important ascites and one with oedema of the para/retropharyngeal tissues were clinically relevant for the severity of the onset. Twelve cases were treated with IVIG and methylprednisolone (2 mg /kg), 4 of them were found to be non-responders and required the use of steroid boluses (4 cases) and anakinra (4 cases), in three of the latter in association with steroid boluses, with rapid and decisive clinical response. Conclusions - The serious clinical manifestations that characterize MIS-C do not concern only cardiac involvement. Therapy with an IL-1 inhibitor, anakinra, must also be envisaged as a possible first-line treatment in case of a particularly severe clinical picture at the onset.

ABSTRACT

As with the SARS-CoV-1 outbreak in 2003-2004 and the MERS outbreak in 2012, there were early reports of frequent transmission to healthcare workers (HCW) in the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. Our hospital center identified its first COVID-19 confirmed case on March 9, 2020, in a 6-day hospitalized patient. The first confirmed COVID-19 case in a HCW happened 3 days later, in a nurse with a probable epidemiological link related to the first confirmed patient. Our study's first objective is to describe and characterize the impact of the first 3 months of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic on the Centro Hospitalar Universitário Lisboa Norte (CHULN). Our second objective is to report the performance of the CHULN Occupational Health Department (OHD) and the impact of the pandemic on CHULN HCW and its adaptation across national, regional, and institutional epidemiological evolution. Over the first 3 months, 2,152 HCW were screened (which represent 29.8% of the total HCW population), grouped in 100 separate identifiable clusters, each one ranging from 2 to 98 HCW. The most prevalent profession screened were nurses (n = 800;37.2%) followed by doctors (n = 634;29.5%). The main source of potential infection and cluster generating screening procedures was co-worker related (n = 1,216;56.5%). A patient source or a combined patient co-worker source was only accountable for 559 (26%) and 43 (2%) of cases, respectively. Our preliminary results demonstrate a lower infection rate among HCW than the ones commonly found in the literature. The main source of infection seemed to be co-worker related rather than patient related. New preventive strategies would have to be implemented in order to control SARS-CoV-2 spread.
